A prospect says your product is too expensive compared to a competitor. What is the most effective response?
Representative example—not a live assessment item. The response pattern shows the kind of job-relevant evidence the assessment creates.

What is a sales situational judgment test?
A sales situational judgment test (SJT) presents realistic sales scenarios and asks candidates to judge the most and least effective response, rather than recalling sales theory or scripts.
Employers use it because effective selling comes down to judgment in the moment — how a candidate handles objections, balances persistence with ethics, prioritizes among competing deals, and recognizes when a deal is at risk. Resume claims about “quota crushing” rarely reveal that judgment directly.
It fits early in hiring for sales roles, often alongside Sales Aptitude or Communication Skills. It tells you how a candidate is likely to actually behave in common sales situations, not just their self-reported track record.
What does the assessment measure?
See the defined dimensions separately, so strengths and areas to verify are easier to discuss before the interview.
Objection Navigation
Responding to customer objections in ways that address real concerns rather than pressuring past them.
Ethical Sales Judgment
Choosing honest, sustainable approaches over short-term pressure tactics that risk trust.
Client Prioritization
Judging which accounts or opportunities deserve time and attention when resources are limited.
Deal-Risk Recognition
Noticing early warning signs that a deal is stalling or at risk, and acting on them.
What candidates can expect
Candidates complete 20 multiple-choice scenario questions in about 12 minutes, each presenting a realistic sales situation and several possible responses to rank or choose between. Instructions are shown up front and candidates progress at their own pace within the time window.

ETHICAL SALES JUDGMENTA prospect seems ready to buy a plan that does not actually fit their stated needs. What should you do?
- AClose the sale anyway since they are willing to pay
- BPoint out the mismatch and recommend the plan that actually fits
- CStay quiet and let them decide
- DUpsell them further regardless of fit
Best answer: B. Ethical selling means recommending what genuinely fits, which builds long-term trust and retention over short-term revenue.
CLIENT PRIORITIZATIONYou have a small quick-close deal and a large deal requiring more nurturing, both needing attention today. What should guide your time?
- AAlways the quick-close deal for an easy win
- BA judgment of overall value and likelihood of closing, not just speed
- CWhichever prospect emailed most recently
- DIgnore both until tomorrow
Best answer: B. Prioritization should weigh potential value and probability of closing, not just ease or recency.
DEAL-RISK RECOGNITIONA previously responsive prospect has gone quiet for a week right before a expected close. What is the best next step?
- AAssume it will close on schedule regardless
- BProactively reach out to check status and address any new concerns
- CWait indefinitely for them to respond
- DRemove the deal from the pipeline immediately
Best answer: B. Sudden silence near a close is a common risk signal that warrants proactive, not passive, follow-up.
When to use a sales SJT
Use this assessment when a role’s success depends on real-time judgment in sales situations, not just product knowledge.
Before interviews
Screen out candidates who consistently choose poor judgment responses before investing interview time.
During candidate screening
Compare sales candidates on realistic judgment rather than self-reported results alone.
When comparing finalists
Use dimension-level results to see which finalist is stronger at ethical judgment versus risk recognition.
Roles where sales judgment matters
Sales Representative, Account Executive, Business Development Representative, Retail Sales Associate, Sales Manager, and Inside Sales Representative.
How the Sales SJT is scored
Responses are scored against expert-informed best-practice answers for each scenario. Questions are grouped by the four dimensions above, so results can be read overall and broken down by dimension.
No fake percentiles or “scientifically validated” claims are shown unless that evidence actually exists.
Strong
Consistently chooses effective, ethical, risk-aware responses across scenarios.
Moderate
Generally sound judgment with some inconsistency under pressure.
Developing
Frequently chooses less effective responses in sales scenarios.
How should employers interpret sales SJT results?
Strong, Moderate, and Developing bands describe how consistently a candidate chose effective responses across realistic sales scenarios.
A lower result should not automatically determine a hiring decision. Assessment results should be considered alongside interviews, experience, and other job-relevant information.
